Heard about this place from someone on this solo forum, and I ordered a Deluxe Sampler from them. 32, 1 cup portions of top notch dehydrated product for $60 delivered. This will rehydrate to roughly 20 quarts, and at this price, I do not believe you can dehydrate as many products and think that you have saved any money. I have been playing around with solo recipes of this and that from this purchase, and the taste in incredible as is the cook time. No salt, no msg, no preservatives; no problems!

It really is, and there is a lot of variety in this sampler. What I like is that I get to add whatever spices I want. I know that is true with home dehydrated as well, but for the price, quality, quantity received and time saved, I am really glad I tried this. A bunch of tvp products included also make this a great product.

Never tried TVP, maybe someday. Ever try drying hand cut beef at home? I do that with sirloin steak, cut to thin strips , then diced cuts about 1/4 inch per side.
Soak in worcestershire sauce and dry in my oven. Hand cut venison is better, both make great stews and you control the fat content.

I do most of my meat at home (red meats, beef/pork), except for some Redwicks stuff like freeze dried chicken ham or shrimp. All the rest of my ingredients are purchased on line.

Beef jerky is about the only meat I do at home other than burger for chili, spag, burritos, etc. Going with your pantry methods on my solo trips this summer.

I ordered the same pack. I tried it for the first time this weekend on an overnight trip on the Current River here in Missouri. I put in 1/3 cup of peas, 1/3 cup of corn, and a 1/3 cup of carrots, salt, pepper and a teaspoon of bell peppers thrown in for good measure. There is going to be a learning curve on cooking with these packets. I didn't soak them before cooking. After about 15 minutes in boiling water the corn was still very chewy but the taste was good. The serving size was too much for two people. In the future I will use 1/3 cup of vegetables per person and pre-soak the vegetables before cooking.

I'll add that I find a lot of them fairly filling, but especially the ones with lentils, beans, quinoa, which are all high in fiber.

Agree on the learning curve. They do offer a few recipes on their website. I have started with these and added/modified ingredients. I am amazed at how such small quantities can be so filling.

I don't know how much help it will be, but most of the dehydrated meals I buy (Outdoor Herbivore) have a net weight of +/- 5 oz., which is around +/- 600 calories @ +/- 120 calories per ounce.

My potion sizes keep getting smaller the older I get. I discovered my base portion size for dried foods by experimentation while car based camping and at home. Other thing is the concept of pantry supplies packing. It's mostly dependent on my desires at the time of preparation.
Most dried foods I start with tablespoon measure, 1 to 2 of meat, 2 of mixed vegetables, the carbs potatoes/rice/noodles vary a lot on the brand supplied. Toss in a 1/4 to 1/2 cup of some sauce. That is likely a 1/2 sized meal for most, but that's what I do.

Nice review of the HH tvp products here. I have only played around with a few recipes, but I can say the texture of the the tvp beef is solid; I like it better than home dehydrated burger.
