Minnesotian: "Jaywalker: "Very nice looking boat, Karl. A suggestion that may or may not work for you but helped me - when my boat was new and I unloaded it off my car at Sawbill for the first time, before getting to the water I picked up a sharp rock and ran it over the bottom leaving a nice 3 foot scrape. Then I could paddle and not worry about that first mark - its going to get in there any way, so I just got it over with. "

Ha! That’s great! If I ever get to making a canoe, I’ll have to do that.

Congrats on the boat, Karl. Trip went well?"

Rain.
And then more rain.
And then it rained.
And then I paddled out in the rain. And storms.
And then it rained on the way home.
I loved it.

Nice boat, sawbill gave me a brand new prism for a rental, after a week it didnt look brand new anymore. A reminder of why I can’t have nice things. Lol

Beautiful boat. What's the weight on that?

Congrats on the new solo! Buying canoes is always a good idea. I've only bought one brand new canoe(tandem), but I've had quite a few used canoes over the years. Still have the one I bought brand new. Probably get almost what I paid for it in 96. Enjoy your new ride.

The first day of the rest of your life! Congratulations, that's an incredible boat. Go out and break it in (not literally though).

Nice looking boat. I see you have the foot brace, a nice feature.

Something just doesn't seem natural about taking 80 grit sandpaper to a brand new canoe, but I did it anyway.
I've put skid plates on two other canoes so it wasn't that foreign to me.
After the epoxy cured I coated it with rubberized under coat to match the black hardware.

What are your impressions of the new canoe? I was thinking of getting a Wilderness myself.

I'm a fisherman and like to have my attention on fishing.
This boat is like a rock with even a small load. I wish I had got one years ago.
Even completely empty I felt more secure that I have in many solo boats loaded.
I'm 5'9"/175.
It tracks well and paddles nicely. You won't win any races, but this thing is the Cadillac of Solos.

Chiropractor = back issues. That new canoe must be heavier than it looks. I'm sorry Karl, I just couldn't resist.

I see - a bunch of clowns.
Yesterday when I was trying to create this post there was a site issue and I couldn't upload any photos.
Right now I'm at the chiropractor so when I get back home I'll upload some of those pictures as that issue now seems to be fixed.

No - chiropractor means overall excellent health. I have zero issues. Zero at 64.
(Physical, anyway.)

What a great idea with rubberized undercoat! I recently purchased a used burgundy Yellowstone w/black trim and the thought of adding yellow skid plates just made me hesitate--till now.
Congrats on your brand new unblemished, unscratched canoe.

After my first B'dub trip, I'm amazed at what a good job I did of not banging it up too bad. I didn't even try all that hard.

Definitely worth the wait!

I had heard about a new advanced lay-up on the horizon but, I had no idea it would be this advanced. I am kicking myself for getting last year's model.
