I'll second this perspective. I've never heard of these two guys but I'm going to check out there vidoes to see where they have/are traveling."

May I suggest this slice of insanity? lol
11 Days solo in the Yukon

This was the first video I watched when people kept mentioning his name. What he does here solo makes me feel like a big wus.
"

I'm at the part where he is fighting his way through that creek, and I think I would have just laid down and died instead of continuing.
"

Not only the physical part of all that but being alone in such a remote area would be hard mentally. Nobody is there to help you get through that. You have to figure it out and get it done. Both of these brothers but especially Jim are mentally tough dudes. He can't make oatmeal but he sure can tough out any hardship thrown his way.

I've never made oatmeal on a plate.

I'm amazed that they both get through those days eating that gruel for
breakfast. They do seem to make up for it with fish for dinner, but still .....

Those guys are BIG too. I've watched a lot of their videos and Jim mentioned once
that he was 6' 7" and about 270lbs. Ted seems to be of a similar size.

When this is where your income comes from you need to put that effort in to make it worth watching.

I would think a lot of their gear is donated. Jim talks about his Thermacell bug gadget a lot and how cool it is, Also a satellite phone, and this 25 lb. Jackery power pack which is really nice and expensive. Then there's the nova Craft canoes and even this 4 wheel drive sleeper van they drove up in. Yeah, those two guys are living the dream.

I'm watching that now.

I don't find the daily high mileage fun. I like to do a few hard days to "get out there" but doing it every day would get old quickly.

It’s not appealing. I’ve also never stirred my coffee with a hunting knife or sawed wood off my thigh with no gloves on. Lol

Ted wears his bug shirt with a net face on the hood. Jim, well, Jim is a savage. :)
There's one day that is incredible for bugs. It would have driven me insane but they deal with it.

Ted posted his finale to the trip and it's really worth watching. The trip is basically done and they are holed up in a cabin at the mouth of the river on Hudson Bay waiting for their ride.

Sounds boring but there's polar bears, wolves, beluga whales and even a wolverine makes a cameo. They get a tour of downtown Churchill then the train back to where the truck is at. It's bucket list stuff especially when Ted decides to canoe with the whales at sunset. Amazing.

In the '80's one of our camp groups did the Seal River and they had a young polar bear break into that cabin. They spent a night on the roof and had some crazy photos of the bear with its paws on the eaves peering up at them!

Enjoyable to watch, though I confess to fast-forwarding big sections rather than watch 7 minutes of their tent setup, or yet another plate of oatmeal.

I find pleasure in seeing the slow transformation of Jim's white shirt - which seems to be all he wears...by episode 18 it is a dusky khaki.

And after watching a number of times where they struggle with weathervaning in wind and/or waves, I want to shout "trim the damn canoe!"

I used to rush over the mundane camp prep portions of the videos, and wondered actually why they'd spend so much time showing another round of water boiling and oatmeal being made. But of late I've tried to embrace the slow meandering pace as a reminder that such is thing is one of the things I like about camping. Now I try to listen in to bird calls, the wind lapping against the shore, etc.

You've never heard of Jim Baird, the Adventurer ?! :) Jim's done a lot of remote solos too. These trips are often long remote bushwhacks involving whitewater, etc. Not easy stuff.

Episode #18 is out today. You may want to go to Jim Bairds you tube and watch ep. #17 first. These are epic whitewater episodes. Running rapids with seals. Crazy footage of class 3 and 4 rapids on the way to Hudson Bay.

One of the next episodes will feature Ted in a capsize and then they run into polar bears. Yeah, I'm looking forward to it too.

Jim and Ted Baird, winners of season 4 of the Alone TV series, have been putting out some real nice canoe trip videos. This last trip in northern Manitoba for 25 days is currently being featured in installments.

Jim just released episode 15 a few hours ago. The whole trip is worth watching so if you prefer to start at the beginning just go to either of their youtube pages for all the episodes.

Oddly I find this enjoyable too. It's like I'm there with them. And you never know when some craziness will break out.

I think that people who do it to this level have an entire gear bag dedicated to their "stuff". That could/add an entire portage!

I’ve only heard but polar bears are to be feared more than grizzlys. Food is hard to come by and humans are much easier prey than trying to snare a beluga whale.

That cabin has character doesn’t it?
