May for lakers. Usually off the Gunflint trail. I did do a solo in July last year entering at ram and went to Little Trout Lake. Didn't see another person the whole trip.

So, i usually get 2-3 trips a year in with my solo always being in May. seems to me that i see more solo guys in my May trip than in any other month. question is, what month do the rest of the solo people typically target for their solo trips?

May and September. I go solo for solitude and that's the time to get it. Solitude includes not having swarms of bugs for company.

late May early June or the first part of September..or before and after school starts for the kids as they seem to be out in mobs the rest of the time, which is fine.--the story i tell is how i was going into the Q,lake Agnes,in May and the portage had just a couple other boot prints on it and i was thinking "i'm a hard core outdoor guy being out here" then in the summer when i was up with my Wife i was crossing the same carry with a bunch of kids singing a camp song and to top it off a couple canoes pulled in with guys waving the Texas,Lone Star, flag!!!! yah..May is best..

Last year was my first and it was in August, around Fourtown. I saw plenty of other paddlers bit I didn't bother me. The day I spent on Gun I think I only saw two canoe parties. I get a kick out of not seeing other groups for days but it really doesn't bother me at all when I do. I don't really like how close some of the camps are on Fourtown. While don't mind a canoe paddling by I really don't care to have neighbors within earshot.
I chose August because it was an option for me. Warm water and weather are safer than typcial May conditions. I chose a not so isolated area for this first trip so that if something did happen I could flag down some help.
I plan to solo again this year. Haven't booked yet but I am thinking mid June and maybe again in August. I'll get a bit more isolation this time by virtue of my route.

I went in the first week of June the last two years. The fishing was the main reason.

I've been going in late-June and July for many years now due to my teaching schedule. It does take a day or two to get away from the crowds, and I've found Quetico to be much more "peaceful" and secluded than in the BWCA. This year, planning a LLC/Iron/Crooked late-June trip with my son and a couple of his friends, mainly for fishing. Then, after dropping them off, I'll head back solo for 18 day loop into the heart of Quetico..up through Kash to Metacryst/Camel/Hoare, then over to Kawnipi and down thru Agnes or over to the Falls Chain and back west thru Man Chain. Should be quite challenging and fun.

wow - 18 day loop - that sounds like fun.
i'll be doing a 7-8 day solo loop up through agnes and hoping to get up to kawnipi and over to kashashiwi (spelling), down thru sarah and out.
not sure how far north i will get but there seems to be a lot of "bail-out" loop options to shorten the trip if i get bad weather or lazy.
This will be the last week of May and i'm hoping to not have a repeat of last year's may solo. that truely was dangerous.
went in on snowbank with 25-30 mph winds from the west sleet, snow, and ice at 24 degrees. what a ride.
after my first portage, i noticed upside down icicles on the end of my canoe from water dripping down and freezing while portaging.

I've gone during most months but probably mostly in September. Hot weather and bugs seem to be easier to deal with when with someone else.

Before Memorial Day and late season, for reasons listed.

I've only soloed in Sept/Oct so far, but will be doing my first May trip this year. I like the cooler temps, no bugs, and less people.

September is my mont of choice but someday I hope to be able to go in May and October. Can't do it now because of my business.

I always liked the first part of September. However I might have to move it more toward the end of month to get away from some of the crowds.
