CVCA pads.

You want visibility and getting the canoe off your neck. Elevate. You dont specify your canoe width nor weight. But these work well between 30-50 lbs. Below that the pads are a little too bouncy for me.

http://gear4portaging.com/ You can angle them too.

Have you tried a set of clamp on pads? I have these and mounted them wide and angled, for much better comfort! They are thick and long enough to space your head away from the yoke itself.

I saw this and thought it might be worth trying. Looks like a pretty cool set up. Easy in and out of the canoe.

Depending on seat height....does that give you enough room for head clearance??

I have marked down that yoke for use as well. I have never tried it and I hope someone can chime in that have used it before.

Bryan states it makes the boat a little stern heavy. I insist on the boat being perfectly balanced on me when I walk.I use stern and bow tag lines held with a quick release buckle so that I dont have to hold the boat...with my hands high. I can walk with a normal arm swing and the hand holding the lines has a gentle grip..you can pull back to pull the bow down and a little forward to pull the stern down.

So far I have found removable yokes the most versatile for this reason. I have one yoke and nine solos.

Also need to think about pack clearance. If your pack rides head level, the seat may interfere with the pack.

Looks nice, i can't tell from the picture, how does the yoke attach to the gunnels? Interesting, I could use a little more head clearance.

I have not had to portage my solo yet but today I took a look at my yoke. It looks like it was made for a little kid. Not nearly wide enough I can't get my neck in it. Any suggestions on after market yolks for some one with a big neck and wide shoulders?

A guy who has no neck cannot claim a big neck. :)

I would suggest some clamp on pads might do the trick. You can adjust the location where they would land on your shoulders. Bell sells some but you can buy them other places as well. Good luck.

order a yoke from eds , get some of the clamps from Spring Creek and a set of clamp on pads. It doesnt take long to make your own.

You might be ahead by making your own.

Trace an existing yoke pattern onto card board. Cut it out and play around with neck clearance. Find a nice hunk of white ash, trace your pattern and finish it off.

I fashioned my yoke after Bannock's design. By doing it yourself, you end up with a yoke custom made to the canoe and your neck. The pads are Chosen Valley pads.

OK for a guy who want to borrow my canoe calling me no neck, even if it is true, will not help your case.
Also if you haven't got to your emails, yes you can borrow my SR.
