Yesterday I took a little day trip solo on Brule Lake. I thought I'd get some fishing in while my friends were beating the woods for grouse. Here is what I learned on my little trip. Ahem...
NEVER, NEVER EVER paddle on Brule Lake solo in a 30-35 mph wind with gusts to 40. I stayed in the lee of the peninsula near the landing because the flipping waves were brutal. Then somehow I got the bright idea to paddle to the channel east of the landing. About 30 yards into the venture I picked up two waves over the side, nearly dumped and made a beeline for the safe water I just left. Lesson learned. Before you ask I was wearing my PFD. At least I had the sense to do that. And I didn't catch any fish.

Welcome to my world Thursday before W/N Izzy and I capsized in 50 mph gusts on Sea Gull. Thing is we were heading out and had no choice, we had to get out or stay overnight on a tiny island without a fire.

Today as we were driving along my son pointed out a farmer's pond had whitecaps on it. Amazing winds the last couple days.

Hehe, at least I'm not the only one who enjoyed the winds this weekend. I went out just by shore on Big Boy Lake in Cass County this afternoon - lasted about 15 minutes before I flipped. :P
