10 by 10 or 12 by 12? I carry a CCS 10x12. :) I also have the pole Dan sells. A good tarp in my opinion will make or break a trip. Don't leave home without it! :)

I agree that the bigger the better. I use a 10 x 12 CCS 1.9oz. and I can't say enough about how I have become a tarp lover.

Paul; I don't want to hijack this tread any but I was wondering what kind of a pole were you using in the WCPP picture? It looks kind of like a yak pole but wondering. FRED

I have a no-name 10x10 nylon tarp for solo trips. It serves me well.
I imagine a larger tarp is not a hinderence, and if you ever go more than solo would be the one to choose.

Depending on the material or the manufacturer, there's not a significant weight difference between a 10 x 10 and a 12 x 12 tarp. Personally, I'd rather have a tarp that's too big than too small.
My primary tarp is the 12 X 12 Kelty "Noah's Tarp", which has been getting plenty of debate today in the "Gear Forum". I use it for trips with my family, and for my solo trips.

I went with the CCS 10 x 10 1.1 oz sil nylon. It works fine, would be ok for 2, but no more then that I feel. Took a 12 x12 with us with 3 this year and was real nice for 3 for sure.

Thanks for the great photos guys! As the saying goes; "A picture is worth a thousand words."
I really like the center-pole pad on the CCS tarps. I hadn't paid the CCS tarps much attention until the extensive tarp debates on these forums.
My Kelty is getting the job done for now, but if my "Noah's Tarp" ever bites the dust, I can see a CCS tarp in my future.

I'm also from the "bigger is better" school, but sometimes wish I had a smaller, lighter tarp for solo's.

8x10 is fine if you never travel with a group nor have a high ridgeline. Near home on the Penobscot River the campsites have picnic tables and a 7 1/2 foot up ridgepole.
Because of that my Noahs 9x9 is like a hanky. I got a 10x14 CCS. Its a lot more versatile and I can use part of it if that is all I need..I can drop the ends for a smaller shelter.
If you only trip one way one tarp is fine. But if you take a variety of types of trips in different locations you may find bigger is better. Unless you don't mind getting a tarp wardrobe.

 That is a 10x12 Eqinox 1.1 sil-nylon over the table (Sawbill campground).  I've used 5x7, and kept going larger for every replacement. Might stay with the 10x12 in 1.1 sil-nylon, packaged size and carry weight difference is negligible.

Like Hans Solo, I'd rather have one that's bigger rather than smaller. I'm not a total ounce counter and the 10X14 I carry is only 4oz. heavier than the 10x10. And it's big enough for two when I'm not solo.
