Have a good trip, if your looking for a short hike on the North Shore check out Caribu falls it's just a little south of Tofte a very nice little hike, not as busy as some of the falls, be safe and take some pictures.

I'll be in at that time somewhere on the McEwen River system probably.
Boonie, do you ever get to Quetico? Where's your route this year?

And yes, I've got all kinds of trip details flying through my brain right now. Trust the list is what I say. I'm good to go except for a another compression sack, a good lighter, and some small "S" clips for my tarp lines. Maybe a new canoe seat pad if I want to get greedy. :)

How bout you? Are you all set? You come a long way too. How far do you go before you stop for the night?

I keep this lighter tied or clipped to my person. It's not cheap, but it is one of those no fail type things.

Sorry, iPad doesn't handle the add link thing well.

In my survival kit/ditch kit I have flint and steel. Real flint chips and a magnesium chunk/striker with some birch bits and charcloth in an altoids tin. Also fail safe as some knives have a type of steel that just doesn't throw sparks. And if that doesn't work, I'll at least get some body heat going trying to do a bow drill with my para cord :)

Did you decide which way around you were gonna go? 90% sure I'll be doing that entry this spring. My brother and I only have 5 nights but we were going to go north through beaver/Adams, possibly into Raven, then back toward Thomas and down through Alice and out. That is, if we can tear ourselves away from Adams and boulder...

One of these years I'll take a comfortable before or after roof over my head with a bed type deal.

@kanoes- Hey, you already had a wonderful adventure! But I'm sure you're ready for another one.

@Exo- Yeah, the before and after roof and bed is pretty much a necessity for me since I live so far away. I'm too old to drive 1,250 miles nonstop and besides - that's not much fun.

@TomT- I thought I remembered that you were going in about the same time. I haven't made it to Quetico yet. I'm entering at #37, Kawishiwi Lake, and making a loop up through Malberg and around.

I've got to finish replacing expired items in first aid, test the stove, filter, sleeping pad, check batteries, and get a new lighter ;). Thanks. Still have to pack the food. I'll go over the checklist and pack everything in about a week so the sleeping bag and pad isn't compressed for too long.

The preparation and packing is complicated by the fact that I'm on the road for several days, so it's like packing for a BW trip plus packing for a road trip. I've got a 1,250 +/- mile trip. I drive fairly long the first two days to have plenty of time to see things on the North Shore, get to the outfitter, meet people, etc.

I'll drive to Gaylord, MI, 575 miles the first day, which is about 10 1/2 hours of traveling with lunch and pit stops. Then it's up and across the UP through Wisconsin to Duluth, which is 45 miles and about the same time since there's only about 60 miles of interstate. Then I have all day to get to Tofte :). I enter #37 the next morning.

I plan to take 3 days driving back and do a little wandering :).
