My Chosen Valley pedestal yoke floats, not high in the water but definitely floats.

Is your yoke setup always on your canoe when traveling, and do you have a sliding seat in your solo?

For some reason I never really considered that the yoke wouldn't float until the year I rented from Rockwood and Mike had tied it to the thwart with a piece of paracord. I assume someone must have lost one of theirs ;). I must remember to put that on my gear list so I don't forget to do it in the future.

Thanks, Banksiana, that's good to know since I'm pretty sure the ones that come with rentals wouldn't.

quote nctry: "Chuck at spring creek made a seat that snaps in and out and can be used as a camp ? chair. The yoke mounts on the front to portage and slips on the back for travel. I had a web seat on a sliding pedestal with a crazy creek type chair on it. I had the gunnel mount yoke and switched to the chosen valley pedestal mounted yoke which I liked the best. I always made sure my yoke was secured somehow so I wouldn't lose it." Thanks for the info, have to do some playing around with a different yoke setup that stays attached.

When I bought my seat mount yoke, I asked Kevin at Chosen Valley if it would float. His answer was - for a while - eventually water will seep into the aluminum tubing. Never have tested exactly what "for a while" means.

Bet a bit of Great Stuff foam squirted into the tubing would keep it afloat.

I just assumed they didn't.
