Interesting question. I have not shared a site while solo. Never say never, but I go solo to embrace the solitude.

Seeing the BWCA.com sticker opened a dialog into inviting him to share my campsite. Not sure if it was him or me that realized we had met at a prior wing night. Nice to share a campsite with you, HighNDry."
Same here! See you on Wood some time or another lake.

Yes, I have, and would do so again in a heartbeat. I made a great friend for four days and we enjoyed fishing and eating what we caught. It's always easier to cook for two and share chores.

I haven't had to but I would if the other party needed to.

Planned meet ups and shared sites has occurred, but the random run into someone and share has not happened, yet. I did have a visitor at a site who was hoping to spend the night there, but he moved on after a short visit. Meeting new folks and sharing stories can be a fun part of the wilderness experience, but in many ways it does defeat the concept of solitude.

I was thinking the same thing. Before running into you, I started setting up camp on the tall peninsula site in the middle of Ham but decided to forego the long night of rain and wet packing the next morning to exit. If I had stayed I would waved you over from atop that big rock.
Only time we ever invited someone to share a site was in blistering rain during a thunderstorm at night when we heard a canoe banging along the shore past our camp. He said in a southern drawl that his camp was over yonder but thanks.

In June 2014 I did a solo on Saganagons. Bhouse46 was heading thru to Kawnipi via the Falls Chain that same week so he came by and stayed a night at my island campsite on Gons. We ate a great steak supper and had a few cocktails around a night fire. Good time
A couple of nights later 24KGold and his group from Arkansas came over to base camp on my island on Gons. Terry and I made plans to hook up and do some walleye fishing. We had a great time. Terry is a great cook and fed me well. Best eats I have evet had up north camping.
It was hard to leave Terry's group but I had to move on to Boundary Point. It was a fun couple of days. Southern hospitality at its finest.
So on a 10 day 9 night trip to the Q, I ended up only soloing 7 full days. I do like soloing but I also like being with a group as well.

Fellow had split off from his group for a 2 night solo, intending to meet back at the campsite we were occupying because his party had left early and he had no where to go that night. Worked out OK as he made contact and met them the next day.
If I remember the regs correctly only one permit holder can occupy a campsite at a time. Therefore, I would only share a site in cases of emergency. Will definitely socialize with others camped nearby if the want to."
Actually, one permit may only occupy one campsite, but there is no prohibition against holders of multiple permits camping together as long as the 9 people, 4 watercraft rule is not violated."
Yeah, that rule is so one permit doesn't use two sites. But you can have four permits. Not sure about q... But I'm thinking the same. I guess that's what Boonie was saying... Sorry.

I did one time. My first Quetico solo in 1988 my last night on Isabella and a couple were looking for a site just before dark. I invited them to stay and they accepted. I was in a hammock and leaving the next morning so I was hungry for company after 8 days or so solo.

So if I understand it right multiple groups or soloists, each with their own permit, can occupy a site so long as the 9 people and 4 watercraft rule isn't violated. So 4 soloists can camp together. Right?

Yes, that is correct. I have verified this with the Supervisor of SNF (and the BW wilderness specialist of SNF). And it makes perfect sense when you consider that the reason for permit quotas is to ration available campsites near an entry. If one permit group occupied more than one campsite it would reduce the available campsites for others and violate that principle, while having two (or more permits) occupy the same site makes more sites available for other permit holders.

While on a solo do you ever share a campsite with someone else? I don't mean if there is bad weather or whatever, but when you run into someone and begin to BS and then end up camping with the other person or group? I never have but on a longer solo sometimes I get tired of talking to myself.

I have once, at the tail end up my hunter island loop, on crooked. I got invited to stay almost right away, it took me about 10 minutes to say ok. im glad I did. I really enjoyed the late afternoon, awesome fish fry, evening, and morning with these guys...complete strangers.

I was heading toward Stewart Lake from Iron and when getting to the portage there is a person I never met in person before. And he says "I heard there was someone like you out here". We got to talking and it was our friend bumabu... I hope I spelled that right. After talking a bit we decided to travel together and spent a couple nights sharing campsites. We had some hair raising experiences on and yes in the water. Buds a great friend... Imagine that meeting a great friend on this site. Haha... I have yet to paddle with someone from here I didn't like. On my long trip I met up with TB and Vicky at a campsite we didn't camp together but shared a few hours of visiting. Bernie loved seeing other people besides me. :)

That's never happened for me, but I could see it happening under the right circumstances. There was some talk of it before my trip this year, but it never quite worked out, although I did run into determinedorange on the way in. If he hadn't been exiting, it would have been cool.

If you wouldn't start out with..... "who are you" after someone says "hi" paddling by....... hahahahahhaha maybe I should have put the flying moose sticker on the bow instead of the stern. My daughter and I enjoyed sharing Jack Lake with you and all the moose.
