Be safe and enjoy! I hit the GFT on Monday for a week-long solo!

I will be on the GFT Thursday. I plan a stop at the Trail Center. I will be by myself. I am going to have to look for a bumper sticker. Does this site have a bumper sticker?

If so... I'd like one that represents a solo tripper.

Enjoy your trip! First solos are a great adventure. I think you are better prepared than I was for my first one ;). Let us know how it all goes.

Glad that your trip went well. I've seen less people in Quetico this year but it's still early. I've only been in the BWCA once with my family (Magnetic off the Gunflint) and we saw around 10 to 12 people going up/coming down Granite River which seemed like the right amount of folks for that time of year (end of May).

Got back yesterday and it was amazing. I was surprised at how few people I saw, has the BWCA seemed more empty than normal this year? The weather was also interesting, 4 days of clouds, perfectly calm, and only a bit of rain. I'll try to get a trip report posted in the next couple of days so stay tuned.

Glad to hear you had a good first solo and I'm looking forward to hearing more about it. People talk about the crowds and I've seen some, but I also often go days seeing no one else or just a couple.
I think the time you go and where you go has a lot to do with it. I go in mid-Sept, often entering mid-week. I've found that after a day's travel, the crowds thin out quite a lot. A couple of years ago, for example, we entered Kawishiwi Lake (on Saturday) and there were people on Polly, but after that we saw almost no one on a loop through Little Sag until we got down to Sawbill on a really nice weekend - mid-70's and sunny. I think we only saw two tandems between Malberg and Kelso.
