Tranquility is my favorite solo. Always get it if using Canoe Canada for rentals in Atikokan. Out of Ely, MM, they're less available so I try to get the Wenonah Encounter. Very similar. I'm 5"10", 160 pounds, BTW.

Thank you, Old Grey Goose. I'm with you on the Old Grey part at least. The Tranquility sounds like it would be very good for my needs. Need to rethink where I'm going though, I guess.

I had a Tranquility for several years and then moved on to a Magic. The Tranquility may be slower, but it sure likes a double blade better than the Magic does and that does help speed up the Tranquility. I always carried both single and double blades, and used both during a trip. The Tranquility is definitely more stable and works much better for fishing. It is also more assuring in rough waters. After I'd sold my Tranquility I said that one day I would have another. That day hasn't come yet, but I will keep my eye open. At 60 years old, I am getting less worried about speed and covering miles, and need to concentrate more on fishing.

Thank you. This is just the kind of information I'd hoped to get. I do fish but not in a hurry either, BC. And also having the benefit of getting the opinions of PortageKeeper who had owned both Magic and Tranquility was especially helpful. I'll use the Tranquility this year and see how it goes. Thanks again to both of you for taking the time to respond.

You are very welcomed. Pleas report your thoughts after the trip. And if you're going out of Atikokan, consider a SR tour. Not an hour, very instructive, fun to see a warehouse full of canoes.

As the linked thread suggests, I love the Tranquility. Just for reference, I'm 64, 220-225 pounds, 6-2, and an intermediate paddler, perhaps on a good day. I'm rarely in a hurry, but I don't fish. Best wishes on your choice.

Would any of you solo folks care to offer your experienced evaluation of the Souris River Tranquility? I may rent one this year because it's what's available from the Canadian outfitter. I loved the Bell Magic on my last and only other solo. Should I have any serious doubts about the Tranquility. It's nice and light - a real plus for an old codger of sturdy spirit but worn out knees.

Never heard anything bad of them and the people I know that have them are happy with them.
