Nice trip report, enjoyed reading it, as I was in the BWCA the same days, dealing with the same weather. A little more practice with the heavy packs at a state park or even around the neighborhood will pay big dividends for next years trip!

Butthead, at 62 I just got done with my second solo--9 days in Quetico. Yes, I definitely have had to come to terms with my age and limits. Flexibility in expectations and plans and pacing have been key for me to adjust without disappointment. It would be dangerous to push too hard and simply not enjoyable. If you are 65, then I guess I better keep goin'! I enjoy it. Gives me a goal, a reason to stay fairly fit. Hard work, but there is some gratification in that. Take Care! Kurt

A learning experience, no harm done! Will/are you looking to solo again? It's not for everyone. Now you have a sense of your current limits, they do change as you change and adapt. I just turned 65, short and wide, and do NOT like to rush. Been solo camping/hunting/fishing/backpacking/canoe tripping for decades. Everyone has their own methods, you will work out your own,. Specific questions can help a lot.

Yeah butthead, I plan on doing another solo. Through all my "struggles" I was having a great time and loved being up there and I loved the solo experience. I still plan on group trips with my sons, but I think I'll try for at least 1 solo per year.

Great trip report, that was a nice read!
I'm heading out a week from today on my third solo and I probably needed the refresher on being prepared for changes to the plan. Glad to hear you had a good time.
