Part time I deliver RVs around the country from the Chicago area. Then all I have to do is rent a one-way rental car and bring the canoe back. The price on used canoes really drop once you get out of the Chicago,Wisconsin and Minnesota area.

Recently bought a Mad River traveler solo canoe. I wasn't sure if my 90 pound golden retriever would fit in the canoe. We did a test run on a local lake and I think we're good to go on a trip in the next couple weeks. I've always taken the dog in a tandem canoe so this would be the first for me in a solo canoe. My biggest decision is should I use a canoe paddle or a kayak paddle.

Practice with both and see which one you feel more comfortable with, I use a kayak paddle, I bring a ZRE for a spare and use it once in awhile.

where did you find a Traveler?....and which layup? I'd like to have one someday

I bought it off some guy near Philadelphia, he only used it on local lakes barely a scratch on it. For $500 got the canoe two paddles, lifejackets and kneeling pad. It's Kevlar, I think it weighs about 48 pounds.
