The Current River in Missouri can be crowded ... you just can't believe the trailers of canooes at the outfitter. The NFS began cracking down on behavior issues a few years ago. During the week in August might be a little better. I have been on the Current in October at Pulltite CG when Marty Koch ( another OZARKPADDLER)... and that is a great time. The Kickapoo River...same thing. If you can sneak off in the fall if the weather is nice it is great.

Just got back from a week at the Clarion in the Allegheny Natl Forest. Hadn't been there in about 4 yrs. All was ok til Saturday. Wow, must have been about 100 kids kayaking or floating done the river. Sounded like spring break. I know the kayak thing has gotten popular bit this was a little too much. Just wondering if anybody else has had their local place kinda of taken over.

Not necessarily taken over by kayaks only, but canoes too -- the Kickapoo river seems to have more groups in general. Most of them have coolers of beer, and many also feel the need to entertain everyone else will with their music.

Yea, didn't mind the numbers of them or the beer so much (didn't even offer me one!) but the music and the fact that all hung out blocking the takeout kinda irked me. Just like blocking a portage.
