We try to paddle every other year on the Current river. The other "Ozark Paddler" Marty Koch from Canoecopia uses gets a blurb out on the boards. But I know he has had health issues so I don't know what is plans are. We basecamp at Pulltite nice showers etc and do day trips which makes life way fun. It is a great river to paddle in the fall.... we usually stay around 6-7 days. There is lots of stuff to do on dreary day like see that mill and look at some of the springs. You have to marvel at the canoe trailers/ busses at the outfitters and imagine what that place is like in the summer. The national park service has cracked down on poor behavior over the last few years....got way out of hand I heard. It is a great river....we take our fiberglass SR....yep it will get scratched a bit. Boats like old Royalex and plastics are the best. Aluminum keels may be a pain but doable. Leave your best Kevlar at home I would say...

Lots of jon boats below Two Rivers..
Bring water purifier. Lots of horses and they poop in the river especially at trail crossings
Baptist to 2 Rivers would be more fun.
You might scrape a composite boat but I have paddled the Current in one. Its got a gravelly bottom

The Ozark Rendezvous is at Pulltite mid October and will run a series of day trips.. We do anything from 10-18 miles in a day.
Your schedule is pretty relaxed.. so you can get out at Welch Spring etc and enjoy

I enjoyed it, Rob! Next time maybe I my brain won't be "Numbed" with cold medicine (LOL)? Also, that river gauge shows just what can sometimes happen on the river. I was afraid I didn't emphasize enough the possibility of a big rise even when a big rain wasn't in the forecast? We only had a few sprinkles of rain here. Can't wait to see some pics.

Heheh doggoneit, Rob, I never saw your thread until today! Glad you had a good trip and it was nice meeting you. Dr.Bobdg mentions "The other Ozarkpaddler" and I believe I saw him the day I shuttled you? I stopped in Salem at Pizza Hut to pick up my wife's pizza and I'd swear Marty was leaving with a green Mad River on his roof?

I hope you and your wife are both feeling better.

I didn't take very many pictures while on the water. I had my hands full with the canoe. Someone told me that my boat had more keel than they liked for ozark streams and they were right. Made great time on the flatwater portions later on down the river though.

Back to cleaning and putting up gear.

NICE! Love the pic of Nate in Cave Spring. Canceled paddling plans with my buddy for tomorrow because this cough still hanging on and the forecast is for rain. This front should at least bring more normal October weather, though.

Thanks. It's looking and sounding like Baptist to Two Rivers. ozarkpaddler has been a wealth of information in emails. Great folks on this site.

I'm just glad we got on the river on Thursday instead of Saturday. :)

Saturday night, we had clear skies downstream from Round Spring, but the thunder and lighting to the west and north was intense from around 6 until at least 10:30 when the fire went and we turned in. It was rising on Sunday morning it started in with thunder & lightning again to the west around noon and driving rain around 4, so we put the petal down and came off Sunday night instead of Monday morning. A guy at Two Rivers said Akers came up 6 feet and it was around 9' north of Baptist. Got home this morning around 3:30 and looked at the gauges to see if it was real.

First planning session is tonight. Looking at Baptist Camp to 2 Rivers or Akers to Big Spring as the two starting options right now. The plan is to be on the water in the morning of 10/4 and off around noon 10/8.

Anybody have any advice for how doable either of those are, and more importantly, will I shred a glass boat on this river? LOL
