Live bait isn't allowed.
Have a great trip. I'll be going there in about a month.

No live bait and a strict limit on the number and size of fish you can keep is one of the reasons I picked this area. Anthony

Returned last night. Stayed 1 night near grayling, fished Wakeley lake. where we caught nice bass and 1 huge bluegill. The next day we drove to big island, where we camped for 4 nights. I thought it was a very nice area, small lakes clean campsites, good fishing (caught Bluegillsup to 11 in., Largemouth bass 10-17 in., Northern pike) we also saw a young man catch a 40 in Musky. Next we visited the Fox and Carp rivers. I will visit Big island again some day. Anthony

My brother and I will be at Big island this Saturday. I will post a report after we return. Going mainly to get away from it all but I hope to find some good fishing. Can anyone report how the fishing is in this area? Anthony

Fishing will be great, the catching may be a different story!
Seriously, I have been to Big Island Lake wilderness, but have not fished there. But for what it is worth, the lakes are small, intimate, friendly and inviting. They would be fun to fish. It is not crowded, therefore it is not over fished.
There may be some special fishing regulations for the wilderness, such as limits, but these are outlined at the information board in the parking lot.
If you need further info, call the Munising Ranger Station at 906-387-3700. That is the closest Ranger station.
