Sure.. August can be busy in the SRCA though till the end of the month.

I started canoeing there many years ago before it was a wilderness area. Its ideal for short 3-4 day trips.

From the areas biggest outfitter

StRegis Canoe Outfitters

They also put out a great ADK Paddlers Map.

Bring a lightweight boat. The portages while mostly well maintained are numerous.. Its no accident that most paddlers take small light solos weighing about 24 lbs each.

Not sure what other info you would want but ask of course. I have been going to that area almost every year since 1963 when I lived there.

also lots of info here under Paddling in the Adirondacks

Canoe campsites in the SRCA are non reservable, no quotas and free. Of course that means first come first served so its best to arrive midweek or Sunday.

My wife tells me we need to go to Boston in August, and I am looking to get a canoe trip out of the deal. I have always wanted to trip in the Adirondacks, and we will be passing right by. Looking for any insider info to make a 3-4 night canoe excursion better than average. Thanks!

Never went there but looking forward:

Northern Canoe Trail

You will also be south of a canoeing paradise: Quebec

Let me know if you need some information about this northern option.
