Get a Cliff's or tacky box. I use... not those for my bwca-relevant flies and it's a bit of a pain to juggle multiple boxes.
I have:
-a gamakatsu double-sided box that has foam on one side and adjustable divided compartments on the other. Big stuff goes in the foam, smaller stuff goes in the compartments). Normally for bass fishing/pike around here I just bring that one.
-another streamer box (a "medium streamer box" from cabelas. It holds quite a few size 2-4 streamers if your tolerance for clutter is high.). Not sure if they still sell that exact one (I bought it before the bass pro takeover) but I think my main criteria when I picked it up were "cheap" and "holds streamers". The foam in it is pretty wimpy for bigger hooks.
- a tacky daypack. I'm using it for dries right now as it's a little small to pack with streamers. I like the silicone stuff that holds the flies a lot better than foam. They go in and out easily and stay put while they're in there.
- a small clamshell style box with a magnetic sheet in the bottom. It holds tiny midges and nymphs like size 18-22 pretty well but organization is completely out the window. That works out because I rarely fish that stuff anyways and I definitely don't tie it.
-one of those foam ones with the magnetic closures. Hoppers, small streamers, and big nymphs go in that one
I also need to find a better fly patch that I can attach to myself or objects near me. I have one with velcro on the back (it's mounted on a chest pack currently) but it's pretty beat up at this point and I didn't like it much to begin with.

Here is my current fly boxes and fly selections. The grey foam ones are from Orvis, light as a feather, made out of foam, floats, magnetic closure. The black ones are from Cabellas, waterproof and sturdy. The others are nothing special but get the job done.

Is anyone monitoring this site. Would like to hear about what fly boxes others are using.

Just like jerrold harter said--one Cliff Bugger box will hold everything you need for a week of fly fishing and with the handle it can be tied to a thwart. I can also slip it into my day pack when portaging.

I find multiple small boxes the worst setup. Easy to lose, wind can blow them around, no handles or easy way to attach them to anything apart from velcro. I like larger boxes like Cliff's Bugger Barn or Just-in Case. Those won't blow away, accommodate deer hair poppers without compressing the hair, can be tied to the canoe itself or to packs, and have handles for easy carrying. They are waterproof and the Just-in Case will float.

I'm a big fan of the Tacky fly boxes. They have silicone inserts, magnetic closures, and come in a variety of sizes. For the BWCA I carry mine in the Tacky Daypack box. It's small enough to carry in pocket and has a clear top so I can see what's there.

I have a streamer box and a smaller “trout” box that actually go on trips plus a few more boxes of “extra” flies.

Sorry, I misunderstood question.....I thought you were wondering what we carry in the boxes....I like 2 smaller boxes....they fit easily in my thwart bag....

I like those, I am trying to decide two bigger boxes or more smaller ones. I am leaning toward several smaller.
