Flyfishing in the BWCA can be a ton of fun! I rarely even bring along a traditional rod anymore. The biggest drawback of a two handed fly rod from shore would be the amount of brush on the back cast. However, in the right spot, you could have a blast wading and fishing down the shorelines. Especially if you could get the fly out an extra 10-15 yards. Good luck!

Anyone bring a two-handed rod for shorefishing? I want to give it a shot one of these days. Seems like it would be great for brushy shorelines where it might be tough to fit in a real backcast. Of course, I'd have to learn how to cast the two-hander, first, but the BW seems like a decent spot to spend some time learning. heh heh.

I'd recommend a standard 1-hander rod and learning the snap-T cast. Excellent for milking every last foot of distance out of your rod when faced with a brushy backdrop. That way you don't have to worry about rocking a 12-14 foot rod when fishing out of the canoe
