Coxey Pond...it's good! Maybe consider Ella Hall also.
Take into consideration that a lake with lots of islands and bays will offer you better wind protection, which can be critical when fly fishing from a canoe.

I reality, many of the lakes in the BWCA are quality smallmouth lakes. I like to do an early June trip, and catch them when they are on the spawning beds (I know that some don't like to fish them when they are on the beds, but there are so many smallies that I don't think it will have any impact on the population at all), we only keep 1 small fish per person per day. If you catch a nice sunny day, with little wind, and the right water temperature, catching 100 fish a day on the fly rod is not out of the question!

O...M...G......june 4...8...10.., just go down any slowish-calmish shore....drop a clouser...dahlberg(thang)...ish....jus' make sure it is sharp....

There are tons of great smallie lakes in the BWCA. If I had to pick and choose, I would head up to Crooked Laked. But, there are plenty of great lakes a lot closer than crooked!

Clearwater has tons of Smallies. Fish the points on the north shore of the lake.
