My main floating line these days is the SA Magnum taper. Textured but not as agressively as sharkskin, nice line for big flies, which is what I throw on a floating line mostly. My go to line for most other presetations is the SA Stillwater line. Not only is it a clear steathy line, with a great slow sink rate, it is also very slick when wet. You can cast it a mile. Other than that, I use type 5 full sinkers. Im sure a density compensated full sinker would be best but i have been using the same old full sinking lines by SA for years with no issues.

I always tie up my own leaders and tippets. Mostly use Maxima Ultragreen, as I like the suppleness, although use a leader butt section of chameleon for turning over bigger flies on 8 weights and above. On subsurface presentations I use seagaur fluoro, for pike bite tippets I use Maxima fluoro in 40lb. For muskie bite tippets I use Seagaur 80lb.

People sometimes ask about lines, leaders, and tippets. I thought it would be interesting for people to list what gear they use. Here is my current lineup:

Floating Line:

Scientific Anglers Mastery Textured Titan

Sinking Line:

Rio Outbound Sink Tip T8 8-wt

Leaders:

Rio Bass Leader 10-lb

Tippet:

Maxima Chameleon 10-lb

Wire Tippet:

Surflon Micro Supreme Camo 13-lb

Backing:

Rio 20-lb Orange

Notes:

The SA Textured Titan line is best for very fast action rods and would be a bit much for a medium action rod.

The T8 sink tip sinks like a stone and can be used for walleyes at times. A great trolling line. Can easily go down to 15 feet with casting. Will sink too fast in shallower conditions.

The Chameleon tippet is brown and great for stained water or with sinking line.

The Surflon wire is expensive but worth it. Knots very easily. I use a double uni to attach to leader and a loop knot to attach fly.

I used to take intermediate line but going in June the smallies are either on top or deep so I don't take intermediate anymore. I used Cortland 444 intermediate line but I would not say it is slick. I will try the SA Stillwater next time.
