For all the joy and satisfaction I derive from learning and playing music I also feel that a certain magic has been lost to hyper annalysis. ie. "what's that guitar player using for an amp?" "the drummer sucks" "the singer is great" and so on. I can better explain this illustratively by quoting another musician friend who once said to me, "you know, you could be on the dance floor with Miss America and your ears would still be glued to the band. That's why musicians make the worst dates." I don't suppose that EVERY musician/artist/poet/dancer/connoisseur, forfeits that pureness to annalytical snobbery. But I am curious as to how many and what extent, do? What say you? Are you attracted to the painting? or, the brush stroke? If perhaps you are endeared to a musical piece, but don't know why. Then it's most likely that you, are the gifted one. |
