I just got a message today on a Kev Light Wilderness from another member. I think I have found the one I've been looking for. I'll keep my fingers crossed he comes thru for me.

quote Ole496: "I stopped out at Hayward Outfitters last weekend and got some info on their boats. I've been in their shop before and I really like the folks there, very kind and helpful.

They carry factory blem models which cost less than new but are still blem boats. The prices are slightly higher than used but less than new. I'm going to see if I can find a used one first then maybe re-consider a blem model. "
There's really nothing wrong with blems in general. Usually it's just cosmetic. Hold out for a wenonah wilderness blem in the new t-formex.

I'm interested in a stable, all purpose solo canoe. I have received many recommendations and everyone keeps pointing me to the Wilderness. If you have another canoe with similar characteristics you think I might like, it never hurts to ask. My second choice would be a Northwind Solo. I've been told it's a great boat but not quite as stable as the Wilderness for fishing.

Intended purpose is for lake use, BWCA trips, fishing, local leisure paddling, small rivers, backwater exploration and day trips. I would trade stability over speed any day. I do not like twitchy boats.

For comparison, my favorite tandem is the Spirit II. I'd like my solo to have the same general characteristics.

Please message me if you have one I might like. Thanks!

Not sure where you're located, but there's one on craigslist in Hot Springs South Dakota. Says it was bought, stored, and never used. (I remember seeing it, But I have no idea whose it is).

Hi, thanks, just looked at that one. It says it has wood trim...which it does in the first photo. The rest of the photos are of a different boat. It's also 10 hours away so I'm afraid to drive out there and find out it's not what is advertised. The other photos show a royalex boat and he's advertising it as a tuff-flex, which he means it's a tuf-weave. I think maybe the first photo is of the real boat but who knows?

Hayward Outfitters in Hayward Wisconsin has a number of Wenonah Solos, Prisms, Advantages and a few Wilderness. They have them listed on their web site. They are on the water so bring your gear and try one out. They claim to have the lowest Wenonah prices.
