I love the decked expedition canoes for BWCA/Quetico. I've been up there on 8 or 9 trips and never have been windbound. Of the four I have, the Loon is the least seaworthy...and that says something about the others! Gosh the Sea Wind and Sea 1 are great for rough water... I was just starting to have fun on this trip on Tampa Bay.

If you are in the market for a new boat, check out John Diller's Falcon. Looks like a Loon to me!

Superior Sawyer canoes is out of production, and Scott won't make the Loon anyway.
Kruger Canoes can build you a Sea Wind perhaps, but they sure are pricey. I could never convince Mark to start building Loons again.
Mad River isn't building Monarchs.
The Clipper Sea 1 is a fine expedition canoe, but doesn't have the wonderful Kruger flip over seat/portage yoke that it a necessity in my BWCA/Quetico crafts.

We have 6 Sawyers and one of them is a Loon. Great canoe for open water. It is one of the boats we use on Lake Michigan. Unfortunately, we do not want to separate with it now. Sorry.

Sounds like the OP is gone, but just thought I'd mention that I just listed a Loon. http://bwca.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=forum.thread&threadId=1096263&forumID=133&confID=1

Looking for a Sawyer Loon or a Madriver Monarch. Any condition. I am located north of MPLS but will travel.

Will send this to my friend Joewildlife. He has Kruegers, Loons, and my old MRC Monarch. He may have a line on someone selling?

No leads right now. I do have a suggestion or two. Join "Sawyer and other Michigan Canoes" and "Team Kruger Canoes" groups on Facebook. These folks help each other find canoes. I've helped three folks get Loons, paying it forward when a new friend got one for me, a coveted 1985 Kevlar model. Of course it was Ozarkpaddler who ruined me when he put me in touch with the owner of the Monarch, and now I own four decked expedition canoes! Also, get in the habit of checking out a nationwide Craigslist search engine. Seems like Michigan and Minnesota are good places to find them, but who knows where one will pop up next. Good luck!

A friend dors have a Clipper Sea 1 he might part with for $3000. Other than the portage yoke not like a Monarch or Sea Wind, an equally wonderful boat!

Joe, I think the OP is gone and we're just talking to ourselves?

I know it's a step down as far as expedpedition decked canoes go, but I picked up a used Canak a couple of years ago. It hasn't seen as much use as it deserves, but I think it's a great boat. If the Loon or Monarch can't be found, or are crazy expensive, it's a great option. I'm kind of surprised I don't see more of these around.
