Probably meant "mini-bear proof".

Hopefully they didn't actually think it was "bear proof."

Bear resistant yes, bear proof, no. I have seen a car made into a hatchback by a bear and they are stronger than a barrel. That being said, I use the barrels all the time, mostly to keep all the small critters (rodents mostly) out of my food.
