Just following up to see if you were still looking for an UL tandem. My Champlain is for sale. Let me know if you’re interested and I can send some pics. I am in Duluth. Thanks!

Whatsit: "Why are canoes going for so much this year? " It's a simple equation of supply and demand. There is a LOT of demand this year because of Covid - going canoeing is a safe activity. I know all the manufacturers are overloaded with orders and the retailers can't keep anything in stock.

Freak007: "Looking for a nice 17' to 18' tandem kevlar canoe. Not dead set on a particular make/model, but a Quetico 17, Minnesota II, Northwind, or similar would intrest me. I am located in the twin cities, but willing to travel for the right deal. "
Hi Freak007,
If you're still looking for a canoe I have a couple that may interest you (or anyone else on the forum). I will post them on a separate thread a little later, if necessary. The canoes are in Duluth, MN. I am not there right now (working out of state at present), but can add photos to the thread later. I am around most weekends, however.
#1 We No Nah Sundowner 16.5 (was the Echo) in cross-rib Kevlar. I think it is a 1987, and is in really nice shape for the year with just a few skin-colored gel-coat (We No Nah sells a tan repair kit for the clear canoes, for some weird reason) repairs on the bottom to cover up where the fabric started to come through the original clear skin coat, and what looks like a really thin coat of Raka epoxy resin, just on the bottom. It has black trim, fiberglass (or Kevlar???) seats (they match the canoe exactly), and the bow seat is a slider. I did not do the repairs, but it looks like they were done by someone who knew what they were doing. I am asking $1600 OBO for it.
#2 We No Nah Fisherman 14 in ultra-light Kevlar. I think it is a 1989, and is in very nice shape for the year. Last May my kids and I put two extra-thick coats of West System 105/207 over the bottom and about a third of the way up the sides. We also added a set of Kevlar felt skid plates to it. It has black trim, cane bench seats, a Spring Creek yoke/seat (installed), that works well to use it solo, and comes with an ultra-light end float bag, motor mount, and the original yoke, if you want to reinstall it. My 14 year old son paddled it solo from Sawbill to Frost and back last June. No, it does not track straight at all! He got a real workout in that week. I am asking $1800 OBO for it.
#3 We No Nah Champlain (18’ canoe) in ultra-light Kevlar that will most likely be for sale after our June trip. I bought this from Moose Tracks in Ely last October. It is in outfitter-used shape and has a thin coat of Raka epoxy resin on it. It will have a Spring Creek yoke/seat installed on it when I sell it (it’s not installed yet). Price will be determined at the time of sale.

Thanks for thinking of me! I had actually already reached out to the seller. Seems to be a nice canoe, but it is pending pickup and a bit heavier than I would like. An UL Champlain would be on my list though.

Sounds good. If you’re still looking for a canoe after the 3rd week in June (our trip is 20th-26th) you’ll be first in line for the Champlain. Just let me know if you find something before then.

I would be interested in the Champlain. I work in the twin cities, but usually make it to Duluth once a week.

You may want to check with an outfitter up north. I believe Sawbill just posted about some canoes for sale. Others may have them too as they tend to turn over the fleet every few years. Good luck in your search!

Yeah, I have been monitoring the ones I know about (Piragis, Gunflint Lodge, Voyageur North, Sawbill, Ely Outfitters, Seagull). It seems most are have sold what they intend to sell before fall all ready. I've also been watching CL and FB but haven't seen much. Apparently I picked the wrong time of year to be able to afford one... ??

No you picked the wrong year. The canoe I paid $900 last year is now selling for probably $1600 if that tells you anything.. Unless you are paying top dollar for brand new its going to be tough going.
