Anybody try to catch em with traps, put out a couple of homemade ones yesterday with liver as bait but strike out. Gonna try a different spot tomorrow, I used pie tins and folded them over and held in place with twist ties. Thinking this would be great in the Bdub.....I’m out with shoulder surgery so maybe I’m just strugggling for something to do....

I've used them within a couple weeks of ice out and they've worked for walleye. I've also had some luck with the Gulp leaches, and they don't ball up.

Mad_Angler: "Are leeches available now or did the late ice out cause supply problems?

Also, people often talk about leeches balling up in cold water and not fishing well. I've always taken them on Memorial Day without any problems. But this year, I am going in a week earlier and the iceout was a month later. Do you think leeches will work?

"

Yes!!

I have used leeches in as cold as 38-40F water and they didn't ball up. Water temps will likely be in the upper 40's to even low 50's in as little as week - depending on the type of water your on..
