I go with a 3-4' leader and generally use an improved clinch knot....never had one fail...

Is there a knot that works well for tying fluorocarbon to the eye of a hook or snap swivel. My question concerns 8 pound Berkley fluorocarbon used as a leader on Power Pro braid. Also how long a fluorocarbon leader is appropriate in general.

Uni Knot for all fishing applications.

I am getting the whole de-ja-vu type thing going on. Its as if somehow I have been here before.

Get yourself a Tie Fast tool and tie the gryp knot as per the instructions included. There is apparently also the Floro knot which is a double line application of the gryp knot without the tool. Do not feel awkward about using a tool for knot tying. It is fast and easy and makes tying the Gryp knot easy. The advantage of the Gryp knot is the coils encircle the running line. When pressure is applied on the running line the coils merely tighten around it........good physics.

When you are making your coils around the channel merely extend your forefinger and trap each revolution as you work up. When finished with the turns, slide the tag end through the channel and give a little snap of the wrist to remove the knot from the tool.

Always wet fluorocarbon and tighten somewhat slowly. Believe it or not you can damage fluorocarbon by tightening to fast. This creates heat in the form of friction and your knot will be destroyed (I can assure you).

As per attachment of braid to fluorocarbon I think it is very difficult to beat the FG knot. I tied the Uni, the double Uni and the Slim Beauty for many years, decades actually. The FG knot when tied as per the Salt Strong video on Utube blows every other method away IMO. Stronger, slimmer and easier IMO. I like a nice long leader of around 10'. Why not? The FG knot is so slim and trim it will easily go onto your spool and casts well through your guides.

On rare occasions the FG will start to come apart. You will notice the tag end hanging off a bit. At this point the leader will have to be rebuilt. One nice thing about a 10ft leader is it lasts several days even with repeated lure changes.

Be sure to check all your work. Fingerless gloves are quite handy when dealing with braid. Wrap the braid around a gloved wrist when checking your work. Do not wrap braid around an unprotected hand or you will be sorry.

Never had Uni knot fail in all applications, but I'm sure there are other good knots as well. I just go on the premise that I can't even remember my wife's phone number, so the fewer knots I have to remember, the better!

I like the Palomar knot for its speed simplicity and ease.

That video is one of the best I've seen using a tool like this.......pretty good application.
