My first trip to the boundary Waters was epic.
I brought a Garmin 73 with a portable magnetic transducer mount from fishfindermounts.com. worked wonderful. Only needed one noqua lithium battery for the week, but had an extra in case.
We caught a bunch of smallmouth, everywhere we went. They were active and shallow.
I caught them on everything. Topwater was my most common technique. Tubes, jerkbaits, crankbaits, spoons.
Caught walleye, but never got a boatload.
I believe that the walleye were 10-15ft deep.
I'd also like to give a HUGE shout-out to my shoes...soft science wet waders. Their shoes passed the bwca test with an A+.
Stick to every wet rock, feet completely comfortable with Simms wet waders socks.
Ely canoe outfitters rule too.
