Thanks! I bought a few smaller lures and grabbed a few walleye spoons from my box too.

All I’m going to say is it sounds like you’re doing it right. Lakers require patience I’ve found.

Sucker minnow suspended somewhere in the water column will work. They can be anywhere.

If it’s just yourself, set a tip up 25 paces away with a sucker minnow 1/2 way down. Jig aggressively with your other line.

Buckle up for the ride.

Good luck!!!!

Let us know how you do if you go to Duncan. I was thinking about going there at the end of the month.

Headed up to Gunflint Lodge for a long weekend and planned on bringing the sleds and try to find some Lakers...been a challenge. The lakes we are thinking are Gunflint, Seagull, Mayhew or Duncan. Problem is we never have luck! I usually fish rock reefs next to sharp breaks near a wall or funnel between islands. Bait I use the white tube jigs and larger 4" inch spoons...I've seen people post about frozen smelt or pieces of sucker? Where and when is that presentation used? What is the option on your second line...tip up with large hook?

Love to learn hope your willing to help.

Downsize your jigging rigs to a smaller Kastmaster (1/8th to 1/4 oz) tipped with a Berkley 3" Power Smelt or a 1 inch Berkley Power Grub, in Olive color. You can jig the entire water column, have caught Lakers 3 feet below the ice. I usually like to jig slightly below halfway to the bottom on your locator. Jig aggressively, then tone it down for a bit, even stopping. Trout normally hit when the jig is dropping.

I finally started getting a few up there when I downsized to walleye gear and started fishing shallower, like in 20 -40 feet, but near deeper water. If you mark a fish on your electronics, reel up about 5 or 10 feet as fast as you can. They chase. I know a few locals up there who swear by Mayhew, but I've never fished it.
Clearwater can be OK as well.
