Gadfly: "Jaywalker: "And if a C.O. stops by, and they do patrol in winter, I'd seriously doubt they'd believe that you meant to take the minnows elsewhere. Why not camp on a laker lake, then leave the minnows there and day trip to the designated trout lake? "
Yeah I have run into the C.O.'s over the years, and I completely understand the reason they are not allowed as they don't want any competition for the stream trout. To get in and out of the lake trout lake would extremely difficult with a hot tent set up. If we decide on this trip we will just stick with some frozen cisco's/smelt as we have done in the past. Thanks for the input from all "
Used dead minnows for years work great.

Would we be asking for trouble if we camped on a designated trout lake and had live minnows along for a day trip to a non designated trout lake for Lakers?

No can do. I think they mainly don’t want any invasive species like your Minnows disrupting the fishery. What would happen if your minnow got loose in that lake and had a disease. Or ate something else that the trout likes to eat. Use worms in these lakes.
