I will comment on the navionics chip. I bought the Navionics USA and Canada chip. It was $200 for just about every lake in the USA and Canada. When you log onto the site with your chip installed it downloads your lake information that you were on since the last download. It also uploads new lake information from all others to your chip. What I did was select the regions I wanted detailed information to my chip. You get free new information for one year then you pay $100 a year after to update your chip. I didn’t pay the $100 because I downloaded all the lakes I needed in Minnesota and Canada. You can buy a cheaper chip to start with with the entire USA only, no Canada info.

We have 2 Humminbird units including a Helix and have 2 Lakemaster chips. If the lakes you'll frequent are bold in their lists online (HD I think?) they are really nice maps. We only have MN chips, and if I go anywhere else I download the single map for $10

Here's a Lake in MN we go to most often, have the color highlight in green turned on for 18-22' I think for walleye. You can see our previous tracks through that inside bend where we kept catching walleye. My grandpa is 86 and loves this, he doesn't have to read the tiny numbers or guess, just stay in the green while trolling!

Looking to purchase a micro sd card for my helix 5 chirp di gps unit. I used the search bar and found some 9 yr old post. Gonna buy the minnesota version. Just curious if anyone had any info on pros or cons of both. Or something out of the box.
More interested in lakes next to or outside the BWCA. I also plan on getting Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois.

You're saying you went with LakeMaster? What version? And was this a currently available product, or purchased on an aftermarket site? I followed the battle between these two for years, and always owned the LM chips vs the Nav versions beginning with LakeMaster MN 2006 and running through 2011 (v.7). Sold a couple here, I think. I run mine exclusively in a Garmin handheld gps, and when Garmin split with LM, I upgraded in 2012 to their Upper Midwest Fishing Guide chip which had it all and more. Since 2017, I now run the Garmin Lake Vu HD chip which is incredible.
Hope there's a nugget somewhere for you in this rambling. Sorry I didn't chime in here earlier.
