PapaBear1975: "Any tips for this time of year? I'm heading out to Insula Memorial Day weekend, maybe hitting up one of the little lakes off of the numbered chain on the way back. I'm mostly going after smallmouth, pike, walleye on this trip. I'm actually looking to really lay into the pike on this trip. Hoping that the timing of this trip will have me finding them on the feed bag. "

All the fish should be on the feed bag that time of the year. You just never know though, it all depends on the weather and water temps. You might have to search for warmer waters if it has been cold the 2 weeks prior to your trip. Keep an eye on the weather and check water temps when you get to your lake. Good luck!

If the weather is right, the fishing should be on fire that time of year. Dad and I had an amazing trip the first of June last year. Going in that same area the 30th. Good luck!

As far as tips go, I had great luck with the smallies using 5” stick baits rigged weightless. Specifically I used yum dingers in the “camo” color, couldn’t keep the smallies off. And live leeches are always good. We also had good luck with mimic minnows for walleye, they really liked the perch and golden shiner color. Moving water=fish (usually). We had 50-75+ fish days during our trip last year about that time.
