carmike	04/13/2019 09:32AM   Nice sunnies, Lundo! As others have said, the bass fishing in that area is very good. There are very good walleyes to be had, too, especially in Koma. You can also head north out of Malberg to many smaller lakes that also have fish and don't get fished nearly as much.
lundojam	04/13/2019 08:19AM   Fished Malberg in August a few years back. Most fish of all species were relating to lily pads in about 5 or 6 feet of water with a sort of hard sand bottom. Walleyes included. Bring along some tiny jigs for bluegills.
mvillasuso	04/06/2019 12:23PM   The bass fishing in the area there is just STUPID. I have only been in the area once (Mid-July) and the walleye bite was super-slow. We caught smallmouth and northerns with regularity. Northerns were on the small side, mostly. Bass were on fire. Big ones, small ones, REALLY BIG ones. We caught em deep, we caught em shallow, we caught em morning, noon, and night on everything we threw. Kawishiwi River above Fishdance lake was PARTICULARLY insane with the fishing.

Lannie	04/08/2019 07:53PM   Fished Koma and Malberg about 12 years ago. Fishing was fair. Spent most of our time chasing walleye. Not much luck on Koma but did alright on Northwest end of Malberg. Nothing of big size but nice eaters. I don't think you will find many over 26" but eaters in the 15-18" range. The biggest memory of that trip was a bear getting into our camp and going through our food pack that was forgotten to be hung from a tree. We had run into a ranger that said there were some nuisance bears visiting campsites. I thought my brother had hung the pack and he thought I had done it. Honest mistake, but it did cut our trip a day short as one day of eating dry pancakes was enough for me.

I've heard of bears in the area on occasion based upon reports on this site. I'd like to see one....I just don't want him trying to peel open my bearvaults! The NW end of Malberg was in the bay close to Record Lake and campsite 1041 and 1042?

lindylair	04/06/2019 08:36PM   What time of year are you going? This is a great area, you are going to love it. We stayed on Malberg at a sand beach site for a few nights. Didn't really fish much but did ok on smallies and pike. Moved on to River Lake and stayed on site 1969, the southern island site. Highly recommend it, great site, decent shore fishing and beautiful views. Great kitchen area. 2 good tent pads. We took a daytrip down to Amber Lake and checked out that site, also very nice. On the way back north we casted the shoreline and had some luck. But when we got to the point on the east side at the narrows just south of the island the campsite is on we hit the jackpot. Probably the fastest walleye action I have ever had anywhere for the next 45 minutes or so. I get the feeling River lake in general is a pretty good walleye spot if you worked it a bit. Here is a trip report with some photos of the area if you have an interest. Think you will enjoy the trip and catch some fish too. Kawishiwi entry
