My first fly rod was a St. Croix Legend Ultra given by my son as a gift. Very nice rod.

Forrest75: "They do make some good rods, but far fewer models are actually made in the US these days. You need to look close at the labels to find out which ones still are. "
Forrest... please back up your statement. To my knowledge, St. Croix rods are made in Park Falls, WI, and there was nothing in the article to indicate that they build some anywhere else, especially overseas.

Forrest75: "It is clearly listed on their website where each series of rod is made. The Premier, Legend, and Avid series are still made in the US. Several of the other newer series, Mojo, Eyecon, etc, are made in Mexico.

Like I said, if you are looking for one of their rods made in the US, make sure to check first. "

True story.

That said, I love all of my Park Falls-made St. Croix rods. From Ultra-lights, to walleye and bass rods, fly rods, all the way up to my musky rigs, they have been a joy.

My husband just upgraded my rod to a St Croix for Mother's Day. Caught some nice bluegills for supper first time using it. I really like it, but I couldn't quite tell when the fish were looking at the bait! Must have been all the pollen floating on the water.

I have a couple of St Croix Premiere Rod’s per Jackfish’s recommendation and I really like them. Well made and with exceptional feel and sensitivity for the price.

Read the article here. Thought you’d enjoy it. Premium quality fishing rods made in Park Falls, WI.

A guy I know who fishes WAY MORE than I do says that when you fish with other rods, you can feel when the fish bites. With St. Croix rods, you can tell when the fish is LOOKING at your bait. (That’s pretty sensitive. LOL). I think he exaggerates just a little, but they’re pretty sweet rods.
