Good points. I usually fish something heavier which explains why I come home empty handed a lot :)

I take 6 and 8 pound both for Walleyes, clear Trilene XL . For Northern and Laker fishing 12 pound clear gets the job done.

Using the search function I found threads on recommendations for BW, but have seen others comment that Quetico is different.
I've used both 6 and 8 # mono when fishing the BW, is that good for the Q as well or should I go higher?

Have used 8# in Quetico for decades. Never felt it was too light.

Spare line is a must. Especially if you do any trolling.

Is braided line really banned in Quetico? I may have missed it, but when I read the Ontario fishing regulations I didn't see any reference to the braided line being banned?

6-8 for walleye, 8-10 bass, 10-12 for pike and lakers. Best all around 8. The lighter you go, the fresher the line needs to be, the better the knots need to be, and the more often you need to retie. That time wasted can sometimes cost fish, just as heavy line can cost fish if they are finicky. Where we go in Quetico, the fish are rarely finicky at all. I have fished for walleye at other places and 4lb outfished 8lb 2 to 1.

I use 8# on everything. But I rig one reel with mono for crank baits & topwater and use fluorocarbon on one that I use for plastics & jigs. Fluorocarbon sinks!

I use 8 lbs. Trilene XL clear for everything. Walleye leader material is 10 lbs. Fluorocarbon.

Sorry... I get on a roll sometimes with all the regulations.
Braided line is fine. But I did read on a handout from the ranger about dissolving baits. That led to a long campfire discussion. How long does it take to dissolve a rapala?

10 fireline and with a flouro leader. Usually 8 to 12 lb leaders. In clear water flouro is much better than any mono for picky fish. I change my fireline after a few years not days. For bobber fishing mono is ok for everything else it sucks. No feel, poor casting distance, short lifespan and tons of stretch.

I disagree with your opinion of monofilament... but hey, that is why there are so many different types of line made. Seems whenever I pull in a snarl of line off the bottom it is heavier line than the line I am using.
