Since we are getting into fishing poetry, I did a little of that once. I actually rewrote a song I like. If someone recognizes the song I will be impressed. You might like it. Or not.

I waded in this morning
It was drizzling rain
The water at my feet
Had a steelhead stain
I heard a fish roll
And an angler moan
They say the great runs
Are a long time gone
A long time gone
A long time gone

If you want good flies
You gotta t-i-e
Fish are gonna judge them
With an e-y-e
The big ones hide
Under the l-o-g
If you wanna get em out
You gotta d-i-g
You gotta d-i-g
You gotta d-i-g

Floating good rivers
Is what matters to me
What makes me want to fish
Every riffle I see
I was drifting this morning
Now I’m drifting again
Every gravel bar I see
Looks like a place to put in
A place to put in
A place to put in

I got a big fish
On the front of my hat
Chasing down the lunkers
Is where it’s at
Where it’s at
Where it’s at

I'm glad you liked them :)

If you enjoy fishing and poetry, the Boundary Waters Journal published my four poems on the four different fish of the Boundary Waters. It's called Grand Slam Poetry. They can be found on page 98 of the Winter issue.

I like the two guesses. They are the right time period and genre. I really love that Ghost Riders in the Sky. The version by the Outlaws is my favorite.

Anyhow, it is Waymore’s Blues by Waylon Jennings. Thanks for guessing.

I have not read QM’s poetry yet but I expect I will.

What happened to Master Tangler? That guy posted like crazy and had good fishing advice. Did he just leave or maybe he got too excited about something and got the boot.
