Millertime34: " rockler mini clamp

I am currently in the process of creating my rod holder and depth finder dashboard. I ordered the clamps above and they are perfect!"

Might need to replace the bolt with a carriage bolt.

Amarillo, it looks like you use hanger strap for the transducer. Is it stiff enough for trolling at paddling travel speed, or is it too flexible?

I also use the titelok system, but since I have wooden thwarts I use their permanent receiver mount, which is screwed down to my thwarts.

I love the amount of options they have.

Thanks!"

Those Scotty bases will work with YakAttack gear track.

Looking for ideas on a good way to install/use rod holder mounts. I just picked up a Wenonah Advantage in carbon and would like to troll for trout while paddling. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ram Mount Rod holder (few different versions depending on rod: spinning vs baitcasting) and the Tough Claw ball attachment. It is going to cost you $40-60 depending on what combo you get, but nothing will hold tighter...guaranteed. Don't use those flimsy aluminum framed options that will definitely scratch up your gear. Also want something that will hold your gunwale without damaging it AND hold when a 30+ pike/trout hits...

Awesome, thanks. I thought I had seen that somewhere but couldn't rememmber where. Where did you get the plastic clamp pieces from?

Here's the setup we use.
The fish finder runs on AAA batteries so it does not require an external battery pack.

You can make your own for about 5$

One of the best ideas I’ve seen was here by someone. Make a board that clamps to the top of the gunnels. Then he attached his depth finder and rod holder. It really looks nice and is handy to store things under bungee cord straps. Just look in the search At the top middle of the page and you will find the picture and many more pictures and descriptions.

+1 on Savage Voyager's idea. I created something very similar for our canoe at home based on an idea I learned here. For me it is great because I can use it at home and take it with us when we rent a canoe in the BWCA. My craftsmanship is not even close to the original but it works. I had originally intended to mount the rod holders in a similar fashion but actually just drilled a 1.5 inch hole offset to one side. It has worked so well that I have not mounted the rod holders yet.

I found a couple of threads with pictures from AmarilloJim.

I use the Tite Loc system.
The clamp locks securely onto a thwart. I leave the clamp on the whole trip and remove the holder at my leisure with the toggle. The holder threads down into the clamp.
The holder swivels and rotates into any position you desire.

Go to any Rockler woodworking store, or go to their online site. They have any clamp you could ever want.

whitecedar :

Here are the Scotty parts I used:

282 Rod Holder Combo

Camera Mount

438 Gear Head Track Adapter

439 PVC Slide Track
Looks like Scotty may have discontinued but I you could call them and see if they still have a few left. See photo below.

440 Low Profile Track
These are 1.75” wide x 7/16” thick available in 4 and 8” long. If your thwart is not wide enough for these, you could mount to a 1.75” wide board and then attach the board to your thwart.

YakAttack Trac These should also work.
