I think I'll take 15ish. A variety of colors and depths.
I think i'll use a titanium leader during the day traveling, then remove leader for evening walleye hunting.

I must be more concerned about loosing lures to northern than you all.
I expect to loose 1-2 a day to northern/snag. Sounds like that's not the case.

I use something like this - the walleyes love them. For some reason I've always done well with the clear color.

I would personally say 5-10 would be good. Make sure you have something for 3ft while casting from shore/camp at night and morning, then bring a few different colors/actions for when you are trolling. In the BWCA I swear you could troll with an empty popcan and catch fish.
My personals - Five of Diamonds and the red/white striped Dare Devil. Original Shad, Perch and Fire Tiger Rapalas. White and Demon Rapala DT6. You will catch a lot of fish with these simple cranks.

Once I started using braid and a titanium leader I stopped losing a lot of crankbaits, topwater baits, mepps and spoons. If the fishing is a grind, I'll tie on a light fluorocarbon leader (alberto knot) to a jig or ned rig to slow way down.
Here's the leader I like...Personally I use the 12" 30lb. It is very pliable and doesn't get kinked up after a few fish. Well worth the money in my opinion.
Oh, and to answer your original question...I brought about 20 with me last year, a combo of Jerkbaits, squarebills, jointed rapalas and lipless cranks. Black and Gold patterns have been good for me, crawfish pattern squarebills/lipless especially the time of year you're going are good for SMB's. Hot Pink was really good for me last year for SMB's and pike too!

Last June I brought at least 30 and we literally caught all our fish on 1 crankbait. We troll a LOT so plenty of time to experiment with different sizes and colors and that's all that worked for lake trout last June for us . If I had limited myself to 5 or 10 I probably would not have even brought that lure. So, I always bring as much tackle as I can manage. But I can guarantee you there are guys that only bring a few and catch more fish than me!

I take way too many and probably use way too few when I go. I just enjoy seeing what other folks are fishing with and having success. I generally pack an assortment that numbers from a dozen up to about 20 along with jigs, topwaters and spoons. Less if I want to lug less weight.

It was a jointed Flicker Shad, purple tiger. I used leadcore line to get it to approx 30 feet down.
Re: losing cranks. Didn't lose a single one last year in the BWCA. (Don't ask how many I lost on the Mississippi!) I mostly fish lake trout in the BWCA as I can catch all the walleye and pike I can handle here in the metro area. I don't worry much about bite-offs since I mostly fish spots that don't hold many, if any, pike. Also I use a depth finder to help avoid bottom snags. And don't set your drag so tight that a snag will quickly break off -- set it so a snag just pulls line out, given you time to paddle back to the snag and work it free. That's my approach anyway.

How many do you have lol? If you have hundreds, hard to take just ten, etc.
However, if we want to discuss a minimum number for lightness and a compact tackle box, etc., then we need to just go through presentation, action and color to get a number.
For me, Rapalas have always been the best producers. For the Big Four species of walleye, pike, bass and lakers, starting on the surface of water down to deep water, I would say two Husky Jerks #12 in Tennessee shad and natural, three #11 Original Raps, two perch and one natural, two #9 Shad Raps, one each perch and natural, two #7 Shad Raps in perch and natural, three regular Taildancers, one each in perch, Firetiger and natural, and one deep Taildancer in purpledescent.
That’s is thirteen in all. I’d say that would be a minimum amount, and of course substitute your own personal lure choices as desired for the presentations etc above.
If I were to add anything more, it would be two #9 Original Rdaps, perch and natural, and two #7 original raps perch and natural. I should add that I doubt I would ever limit myself to just those as I will always rationalize a reason to take more but could easily manage with those.

I'd be in the 5-10 group. For walleyes in cold water, they just don't seem to chase crankbaits much. I'd stock up on jigs and rubber bodies, lots of 'em!

Yes, I know, an impossible question to have a consistent answer. LOL.
Maybe it's better to say "How many crankbaits do YOU take for a week?"
As most topics, there are many variables; species targeting, leader use, basecamp, # people, etc. I'm only inquiring about crankbaits, I'll also be taking spoons, spinners, Zulu's, etc. For reference, EP 14, 5 days, 2 people, June 1st, trolling most time while paddling, probably throwing other baits from shore.

So we took a week long trip last May and had the exact same question. We primarily troll crankbaits and have had success on several of them. However one lure has out fished all the others for our group. It's a purple flicker shad, size 7. I believe this color is a Fleet Farm exclusive but you should be able to get pretty close. I would say 80% of our fish were caught on this one lure and we soon ran out of them. We caught whitefish (we think?), walleye, northern, smallies and lakers all off the same lure. Our party was six people in three canoes. We fished mostly lakes between seagull and knife lake. I don't want to oversell it but by the last couple days of the trip all six of us were trolling some sort of a purple crankbait. Also I highly recommend a rod holder. We've done the last 4-5 years with rods between our legs while we paddle but a rod holder was a big quality of life upgrade in my opinion.

I probably bring around 30. Crankbaits weigh next to nothing, so I don't worry about their weight. They can be bulky, but I can usually mush them into small plastic tackle boxes pretty tightly so they don't take up too much room.

Ha ha no I agree completely you will lose lures for sure. I thought you were asking a more philosophical question as to numbers of minimum lures etc. Snags are always a possibility for sure and Bite-offs to pike can be an issue but really can minimized quite a bit with the right leader. In canoe country it’s always the trade off between a bite proof leader and stealth, in particular for walleyes. I have found the best combo of leaders are ones I make myself from 18lb Knot to Kinky knotable nickel/titanium wire and 20-25lb seagaur or maxima fluorocarbon line. But still to your question I guess I would say I take double the amount of the same lures from my first post, plus several more original raps and shadraps, and add a few more bright/ firetiger patterns.

I apologize, I didn't answer the question. I would say total I bring 15-20 crankbaits. There's also 5-10 topwaters and 8 spoons or so. I normally bring several different sized jigs from 1/8oz-3/8oz and 4-5 bags of plastics. Sadly I haven't fared well with jigs and artificials though I know a lot of people on the forums here have. This is everything coming with this year.

Well I’m a mediocre fisherman, but I typically bring 4-5 types, each in 2-3 colors. There’s really probably 2-4 that I would hate to be without.

Just to expand on titanium leaders. Easy to buy from several different manufacturers as per the post above, but also as I mentioned it is so easy to make them. The knot too kinky material in 18lb works very well but tying can be tricky. I use a three turn clinch knot. Make the knot, then using 2 pliers, pull the ends slowly. Do not pull on the loop at all. The knot will not snug down tightly like with mono etc but it will not break or unravel at all. I have never had one fail. I seldom use the 12lb, except for jigs when I am repeatedly being bitten off by small pike. I use the 18lb almost all the time. It’s easy to add whatever snaps/swivels or split rings etc and customize to whatever length you want. It costs about 12-15 at cabelas etc.

Last year I took 2 peanut butter jars full of cranks. (25-35?) My oldest son has gone with me twice. 1st time he use a perch colored shad rap all week, 2nd time he used a perch colored clackin rap lip less Rapala all week. He caught as many fish as anyone! I always say I'm going to limit myself to a handful but just cant help myself when it comes time to go. Maybe this year will be different?
