I like both silver and gold. Both work but I find on certain lakes the fish have a preference, so bring a couple of both colors...if I could only pick one color it would be gold though. Mind you I always have both!

I’ve had great luck with a Phelps floater tipped with a piece of worm. Small split shot about 2 feet above the floater. Slow trolling .

Skip the worms! They are not needed! Plus you run the risk of killing any trout you would normally release. Rebel craws and frogs, small husky jerks and/or floating minnow raps, and mepps spinners. Those are the only lures you need. I prefer dark natural colors, but in all honesty it doesn’t really matter.

i bring worms because whether i'm on the water or at camp (cutting wood-cooking-or just chill'n ) my line is always wet ;)

^^^^ from shore/camp i like to use a whole crawler on a phelps floater (a little air too) with a slip sinker set up.

If going next week they will be shallow so almost everything will work. I would cast cleos around shorelines and drop offs, and troll raps between spots. Cover water and you should be good. If you mark fish but they are not hitting a spinner with a worm trailer can seal the deal. Also I wouldn’t go too small on spinners, stick to size 2 and 3.

We are going to be basecamping on Alder next week and want to try Pierz for half a day to try and catch a splake. From the reading I've done on here so far it sounds like it is similar to fishing for other stocked trout... Worms and small spinners. What's everyones favorite technique? Troll, drift, cast shorelines, all of the above?

I like to use Kasmasters and Little Cleos for Brook Trout and Splake. I was successful using gold colors last weekend. I also used orange jointed rapalas size J5. I caught all fish in 10ft or less.
