Call around. Fisherman’s Corner in Duluth is now charging by the 1/4# price. Another guy and I were there today buying 4# between us and they weren’t sure if they had that many and didn’t expect more. I paid $40 for 1#.

We’re heading up next Friday after work to stay in a bunkhouse at the end of the gunflint trail and hitting the water first thing Saturday morning so we won’t be able to buy bait up north.

I’m thinking of grabbing some in the TC metro on our way up but I don’t like taking the risk that they are out of stock.

I have found a handful of places online that will deliver by the pound. Has anyone had success going this route? How long will they hold up in the fridge at home? How do I convince my wife to let me put 300 leeches in our fridge?

Could you call the bait shop up there and prepay for the leeches you want?

Many years ago we bought leeches from The Bait Box in Superior via a phone call and picked them up at 4am from a cooler on the back step.

I would think that the outfitter where you are staying in the bunkhouse would have leeches.

Buy them in Ely if at all possible. Make a phone call or two and your business will be greatly appreciated.

Half-way up the Gunflint the Ugly Baby has regular and jumbo for sale. Call ahead and arrange a pickup, owner lives on site and will be happy to help.

IMO we need to do everything we can to bring commerce to the area and avoid a mine going in to fill the commerce void. Make some phone calls and get everything there. Bring some Mr. Twisters in the event they do run out.
