Jackfish: "One thing you might consider doing is bringing fewer rods, at least when you're out fishing. Two rods each are pretty easy to manage - fish with one while the other is laid across the thwarts with the tip tucked under the thwart. Both would be set up differently. Maybe one with a jig and the other with a slip bobber or crankbait. I can't imagine having 6-8 rods in the canoe." I bring three, maybe four, but don't take more than two out with me fishing at any given time. It has worked well for me after getting frustrated at crap all over the canoe. |

On fishing days, I only take two out with me and my spare one stays back at camp. |

I am looking for a way to organize my fishing poles (maybe 3 or 4) when fishing in the canoe. I looked online and could not really find a good setup that clamps on that a guy could make at home. Does anybody have a setup they would mind sharing? I am not really thinking of using them for trolling, just want a way so the poles are not getting tangled and bumped around in the canoe which makes them easier to access. I was thinking something with PVC that would clamp on to the gunwales but am really open to anything. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! |

Rod Sleeve Bungee Dealee Bobs |

When I am paddling long distances and portaging and not fishing, I usually put my rods in rod sleeves and bungee them to the thwarts. Most of the time I put one rod sleeve around 2 rods and a rod sleeve around a single 3rd rod. If I solo I put a rod sleeve on each side of my Bell Magic. If tandem I will bungee the 2 rod sleeves with 3 rods on one side of the canoe and my partner will do the same and bungee his rods that are inside rod sleeves on the other side of the canoe. Safe and out of the way. You could attach your reels to your rods and bungee to the thwarts with or without a rod sleeve. I even have added padded reel covers to my reels along with rod sleeves for safe transport. I like bright coloured rod sleeves so they are easily seen and not stepped on in camp. Some guys will use plastic golf club holders or pvc piping or even light aluminium down spouts to keep rods organised in their canoes. I do use a Rod Holder that I attach to the thwart for trolling. |
