HighnDry: "I was told last week by Mark A. when I took his tow out of Crane Lake that LLC was "averaging 68 to 70F". I'm wondering if the recent rains have decreased that overall temp and are temps likely higher in the Tiger Bay area given the shallower depths. Anyone able to check into this? I'm heading in there mid-week but I don't think it will greatly alter my fishing strategy--- I'm just curious."

When I was up there two weeks ago my Garmin was reading low to mid 70's I'm pretty sure. I was in Boulder Bay and Tiger Bay

Terry,

I would just call Mark Anderson before you leave and he will tell you what current water temps are for LLC. He transports paddlers every day up to LLC from Crane Lake. His boat is equipped with a depth finder and water temp guage.

When I was up on LLC over the 4th of July my Lowrance X-4 that shoots thru the hull was showing 86 degrees. When Mark Anderdon picked us up in his boat on Snow Bay for pickup ... I asked Mark what his temp guage was reading and he said 87 surface temp. Yikes. I knew it was hot the whole 2 weeks we were on LLC and worse there were calm winds too. No wind meant surface temps were going to be sly high and they were. We found walleye suspending off of structure in 8 to 20 ft over 80 of water. Never experienced that during last week of June and 4th of July. It was the hottest weather I can remember in early summer with little wind too.

Of course, my temp scenario was 6 weeks ago. Hope water temps are back to near normal now .

Thanks Mike and lyontyl, I'm kind of thinking that water temps may have cooled off a bit by now. Rains and some serious thunderstorms rolled through that area of the past 5 to 7 days and hopefully churned that water up to cool it all down. I was seeing walleye in the 17 -20 FOW off of points in midday -- which was where they shouldn't have been. Go figure. I also marked fish as deep as 80 FOW just suspended or at the bottom slope of a drop off.

I'll let you know when I get back this weekend :)

I can answer my own question. Temps seemed to be between 68-72F. They were higher is shallower, muddier areas such as Boulder Bay. Where it was deeper, fish were holding off of drop-offs from anywhere between 27ft on up to 81ft (on my unscientific travels) around Tiger Bay and points north.
