I know there are lakes in the Boundary Waters that contain Lake Whitefish. Does anyone target this fish? I know people use nets in the fall to capture them. Does anyone have any tips for catching this fish. Any advice would be appreciated.

best time i've experienced was a opener in SAK . they were bunch up below eddy falls feasting on the walleye spawn drifting out in the current. when we realized this we put the smallest piece of a twistertail on a bare hook(only had yellow) and just let the current take out the line and they would suck it right in .
definitely a different and timing type of application ;) but we batter fried them and they were excellent !

Caught them in Canadian Agnes in June when they were surface feeding on Mayflies. Used a small spinner. Fly fishing would of been awesome. We ate them and they were real good, the meat flaked off a little tho. No big deal. Whitefish are very slow growing and a 20 inch one could be like 45 years old.
