Seen some guys here recommend getting a drift sock for fishing. Want to get a lightweight nylon one rather than a heavier vinyl one but they don't seem to make very many nylon ones and if they do, they cost way too much. Anyone know of a good lightweight drift sock for under $30?

There are DIY You Tube videos out there for making drift socks. Also in the DIY section of this website, there's a video for a homemade one.

The MinnKota MKA26 is not a 34" it is a 22". The length is 34" but the size (diameter) is 22". It is one of the smallest, lightest socks out there.

There are quite a few places that are selling the MinnKota MK26 (my favorite for BWCA/Quetico) for 30.00. That does not include shipping so may be too high, but at least there is no tax. Shipping is around 7-8.00, and some with free shipping are 37-38.00. I like this sock because it is very light, is around Nalgene bottle size when packed, and does not have the weights and floats which are completely unnecessary at this size. The floats and weights do help on the larger sizes that we use on our big boat (66-78"). I think you also have to attach your own dump rope to the back of the MK26.

Anyone ever done tried turning their kitchen sink into a drift sock? We are going in a couple weeks and was wondering if this would work?

Might work, might not be big enough...give it a try!

You get bonus points for double-use of an item. Well done!

I really like the Minn Kota MKA-26 Drift Sock (34"x 22") for canoe fishing. It is well built, easy to use and the perfect size for canoeing. It works well with my Wenonah MN II 18.5 foot tandem and my 16 Bell Magic Solo.

It is normally sold for $40 to $50 but is currently on sale at my local Farm and Fleet for $29.99.

My brother uses a Lindy Drift Sock 30 inch model and really likes it for controlled drift fishing.

what kind and size do you have? The MinnKota seems like the lightweight one I am looking for but 34 inches seems a little big for a canoe
