Yes it is amazing the different colors and patterns the same species can have present.

We've caught some on this lake like this, I wonder if it's from them hanging in the weeds for a period of time?

got ya , yes musky definitely have that tan look from above , in nature it's possible , eggs attach to a birds leg , eagle has a fish and drops it , i can verify that as i caught a #2 walleye and had 3 holes in it's side with the meat pulled out , a eagle or some bird of prey defnitely had this fish days prior to me catching it .

shock: "We've caught some on this lake like this, I wonder if it's from them hanging in the weeds for a period of time?" Never thought of that. Great observation. Was the pike caught close to cabbage weeds? I have seen these markings on pike that I have caught in thick cabbage beds.

It wasn't the side markings that made me wonder muskie--I wasn't able to note any. It was the behavior of the fight and the overall color, kind of a tan.

without looking at DNR reports , i dont believe so . the only lake i'm aware of is east pike(i think) and that was awhile back when they stocked them , but i've heard of some being caught still. possible natural breeding , as they were more than likely leech lake strain.

Anyone know if there are muskies in Sawbill Lake?
Tied into a big fish recently on north end of Sawbill that behaved like a muskie and from what we saw looked a lot lighter in color than a typical northern. Got it to the canoe twice and it ran twice. Got it to the canoe a third time and it spit the hook as we were trying to get it out of the water. Exceeded 3 feet in length. Bent the hell out of the hooks on my red/white striped Daredevl. Was not able to catch the markings and did not get a photo so not able to confirm if it was anything more than a big, feisty northern. Fun at any rate!
