My personal best walleye is 28". My fishing partner's personal best walleye is 29". They were caught within minutes of each other on a Quetico reef. The wind came up for a few minutes, the walleyes turned-on and then were done for the rest of the week.

My personal best overall was a 29.5" on Middle Cullen Lake (that girl is probably the only big walleye in there :D). (Terrible pic of me. Nice one of the fish :D...that's all that matters, right?) In the BWCA, we have had quite a few in the 26"-28" range. We usually get a couple/few each trip 25"+.

Mine is only 7 pounds, but I guided a trip where two of the clients each caught 30 inchers, which I actually find more rewarding.

31" - ice fishing (if you wanna call it that) Feb 1996 after -60F in Tower, at Indus Rapids on the Rainy River. Buddy caught two 28" back to back in 2 minutes right after my catch. Biggest in the BW is 26" on Insula.

I pulled in this 29" 9 lb eye on the Kawishiwi River on a 1/16 oz horsehead road runner jig with a rainbow chub. Thought for sure I was stuck on a log. Bad picture with the sun behind me, but put her back for someone else to catch. Haven't come close to that in the nine trips since 2011. "
Is this South Kawishiwi?"
Yes. Don't really want to give the exact location, but it was a hot spot for eyes of all shapes and sizes.

I seen a walleye measured at 37.5 inches and probably close to 18 pounds at the Mn DNR spawning station in Pine River back around 1988.

I believe I know the location, given the rock wall in the background as well as what I believe are ripples from moving water :)

Savage Voyageur: "The DNR did a lake net survey last summer. They caught a 28” walleye in my lake. I was down by the shore and a fishing boat went by with two guys. Right off my dock they landed a 27” walleye took pictures and released it back. That was cool to see big ones right at home. I’m trying to remember why I spend thousands and travel hundreds of miles to catch them when they are literally feet away. "
I've often wondered that myself, but It's all about the setting.
If I want to catch a bunch of walleyes, I go to Upper Red Lake, but it's not pretty. The water is often silty, there are no islands, the surrounding area is basically a bog, and even the walleyes aren't pretty. They are pale, and closer to white.
I never feel like that in the BWCA. It's so beautiful, and peaceful. Sitting there fishing on a calm 70 degree night, as the sun is starting to set, the dragonflies are out buzzing about, a beaver is swimming across the lake, 2 loons have come in close to check you out, and in the background, a white throated sparrow serenades the forest. It's such a treat to pull one of those dark greenish, gold, almost black, beauties from the depths. That little white corner of it's tail flashing sideways below the surface.
The lake I've been going to for 48 years, I've never caught a walleye over 26", but I barely care. It'll be nice when I finally get a 10 lber, but that's not why I keep coming back. It's all about the setting, and the memories.
For the most part, I've been going to the same lake every year, and I still get excited to go. I'm still giddy on the drive up. I'm not sure there is anywhere else i feel that sort of excitement. Maybe the Caribbean.
I do have to admit, I want to get up into the Quetico, just so I can finally cross that 30"er off my list. I could probably just go to the Rainy River in April, but it almost feels like cheating. It would be like going on a charter on Erie or something. I'm sure I would catch one if I spent enough time on Mille Lacs. But it's just not the same kind of fun. I really want to catch my first 30" in the boundary waters.

I went to upper red once. It was like being in a bumper boats arena. We limited in a couple hours and got out of there to go crappie fishing down by winnie.
My PB was earlier on that trip. A 27"er caught on a yellow perch F11 rapala casting from shore by a boat ramp on the Mississippi.

Grew up in Northern Indiana. Many of our family vacations were to the Northwest Bay of Rainy. Dad and I would often portage to a small lake up the road from the Indian village-and across the river. More than once we would sit over this walleye hole and haul in fish as fast as we could net them, re-bait and get our line back down. We would sit out there hootin' and hollerin' for several hours...eat our lunch then head back to camp with a stringer full of walleye for supper...and to stock up to take back home. They were only 12 to 15 inchers but the joy was off the charts-and the wonderful memories, over 50 years later, remain.

Those fish approaching 30 inches are quite often close to 25 years old. That is old in the walleye world.

My personal best is a 27” walleye caught in central Ontario. I thought I had another snag, then it gave a couple of heavy pulls. I caught it on a spinner tipped with a minnow.

Great picture!
My best was a 30.5 inch 10.5 pounder caught while bass fishing at midnight in a shallow bay on Madison Lake in Mankato from shore. It was also my first walleye ever, so I didn't really know how big it was!

Nice fish lundojam. Congrats.
Love to see all the big walleye pics but it's bittersweet because it reminds me of the 32-33" pig I lost at the net a few years ago. Two fish, that one and a 54" musky I lost through incompetence on my part, will haunt me until the day I day...or until I catch a bigger one.

Sometimes I think the near miss on a big buck or netting a big fish becomes more memorable than getting it. What drama or excitement would there be if we caught or harvested everything we tried for.

My own PB is probably around 28" or so....I don't have an exact length.
My friend a caught a 30" from camp w/ a leech and slip bobber 2 years ago in the BWCA. I didn't believe him when I got back from fishing in the canoe....till he showed me pictures on the phone. Yep...it was.
