Heading in at EP#30 last of May and first week of June. What are the best lures and colors for Walleye and Pike as well as smallies at that time?

Hi Gman7,

Your post reminded me of this thread about lures.

I plan to take a chartreuse SR6 Shad Rap on all my trips.

Thanks to all for input. What hooks are you typically using for bait holders.

Walleye, spinners tipped with a leech, slip bobbers with a hook and leech.

Pike, red and white daredevil, rapala super shad raps.

Smallmouth, Zara super spook

I'm not familiar with EP30 and I'm not a walleye guy but for bass and pike at that time of year you have lots of options but if going minimalist--3 1/2" green pumpkin paddletails on 1/8 and 1/4 oz jigs, spinnerbaits and either a size 90 Whopper Plopper or a Pop-R. You'll catch walleyes on the paddletail and spinnerbait too.

My go to bait would be leeches. I have used aberdeen hooks #6 or #8 under a slip bobber. This is inspired by the book Lunkers Love night crawlers. The idea is that the thin wire hook allows the bait to have a more natural action.

I have also use standard Cabela's brand black ball head jigs 1/8 or 1/4 oz under a slip bobber. This means I don't have to use a split shot and seemed to work just as well.
