you like braid or mono ?
#15 power pro is a nice size braid , could go more , but #15 cast so nice.
mono (strictly target lakers) #12 for the most part lakers are not line shy.

When braided lines first came out I jumped on board and used it for lake trout fisning. Immediately I saw the advantages of a no stretch line, being a good hook set.
After loosing way to many lures that were draged on rocky bottoms, I went back too extra tough triline, 8-12 pound.

I do the braid thing not just for sensitivity but because it's smaller diameter has a steeper dive curve than mono does, which means less line out to get to the desired depth. I agree 15 pound Power Pro is a great all-around braid test -- it's equal in diameter to 4 lb mono. I run 20-25 lb on some reels and it casts pretty great as well.

And while I agree lakers aren't line shy, there is more than one reason to run a mono or flouro leader when trolling -- it adds enough shock absorption that I very rarely lose a lure. In a full day of trolling I'll hit maybe 10 snags and lose 1 lure. Usually I just have to reel/maneuver back toward the snag, get on the other side of it, and it pops free.

I use 10lb Tracer Fireline. No need for a leader in my experience.

I use 8 lb Stren Monofiliment.

15-25# mainline braid (powerpro) to a 25-30# (for snags and sharp teeth, not fish weight) high-abrasion flourocarbon leader (Seaguar is my favorite). In open water I really only use braid for its strength and diameter (echoing Gopher's point about trolling and cutting through the water better and no line stretch).

Yes. I would recommend using line. Not so sure about leaders, but definitely line!

I have never caught a lake trout. Going to Oyster then up to LLC late May. Feeling pretty good about lures. Not sure about line. Also leaders, yes or no?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
